Situated on the northern tip of Sri Lanka, Jaffna is now a peaceful town, having recovered from the civil war. Tourists as in the whole of the Island are warmly welcomed. The majority of people here are Hindu. Their hospitality is of a very high standard and they have their own unique way of welcoming you. Jaffna is full of ancient Kovils (Religious temple) with colourful statues and churches dating back to the 17th Century. You can witness the popular religious service with vibrant drumming and singing at the Nallur Kandaswami Kovil, A trip to Delft island and the gorgeous sea at Casuarina Beach is an experience not to be missed as are the Flamingos that can be seen in the season. Jaffna market is a spectacle of local produces and bargains! Don’t forget to taste the delightful curries in this region wonderfully spiced proudly prepared and all served on a banana leaf – delicious!!!!
