Gal Oya National Park is one of the popular Eco tourism destinations, established in 1954 and situated 376 km Northwest of Colombo, spread out on 25,000 hectares and home to 32 species of mammals such as deer, wild boar, water buffalo, leopard and Langurs also 150 species of rare birds. The best time to visit is March to July. The only National |Park that provides a boat trip for tourists so that the creatures will not be disturbed and can observe the wildlife up close. Jeep safaris are also available and accommodation is situated close to the park. Many tourists have spotted elephants swimming in the lake! – one of the great experiences to be had in this diverse gem of an Island.
